Continental Luggage Restrictions

Being aware of Continental Airlines' luggage restrictions can make your travel experience go smoother. Continental's restrictions extend to both carry-on and checked luggage, as well as to certain packed items.

Important Liquid Restrictions

• According to the Continental website, if you carry any liquid, gel or aerosol items in your carry-on luggage, the size of the containers cannot exceed 3.4 oz. Also, all the containers must fit comfortably within one clear plastic zip-top bag that is 7.5 inches by 8 inches, or quart-size. For flights departing outside of the U.S., those liquid, gel, and aerosol items must be in 3.4 oz containers, and the re-sealable plastic bag they are placed in may be up to 1 liter (about a quart) in capacity.

Size And Weight Restrictions

• Continental restricts carry-on luggage to a maximum weight of 40 pounds. The linear measurement, which is sum of the item's length, width, and height, cannot exceed 45 inches. With exceptions for travelers in certain programs, individual bags in checked luggage may not weigh more than 50 pounds or have a linear measurement over 62 inches.

Considerations

• Failure to comply with certain luggage restrictions imposed by Continental may result in additional fees, or having your luggage rejected. For example, individual checked luggage will be rejected if it weighs over 70 pounds or measures over 115 linear inches.
