Directions for Multi-Tap

Many phones no longer use multi-tap as a main source of entering text. Most phones now either have a QWERTY keyboard or use predictive text inputting. If you prefer the older method of inputting text into your phone, you do have the option to change your input method on your phone and use multi-tap. Multi-tap allows you to use your phone's keypad numbers to create words.
    • 1

Open a new text message or email on your phone.

    • 2

Press the number on the keypad that corresponds with the letter you want to type. For example, the number "2" is used for letters "A," "B" and "C."

    • 3

Tap the number multiple times until you reach the desired letter. When you tap the keypad once, it should be the first letter. A second tap will be the second letter and so on. When there are no more letters, the last tap is that key's number.

    • 4

Tap "0" to enter a space, unless the phone has a designated "Space" button.

    • 5

Tap the number "1" multiple times to reach a desired symbol such as a punctuation mark.
