Does Alltel Use Simcards?

In 2009, AT&T acquired Alltel Wireless, according to AT&T. Alltel and AT&T use different types of networks for their services. AT&T uses SIM cards in their phones, so Alltel users will have to switch to a new phone eventually.
  • Identification

    • In the U.S., Alltel used the CDMA standard, which does not need a SIM card. GSM service, employed by most carriers, uses your phone number and other information on the phone to identify an account, according to Alltel.

    Geography

    • Internationally, Alltel BlackBerrys can use a SIM cards, according to Alltel. Alltel SIM cards for the BlackBerry only work in a few select countries and U.S. territories.

    Tip

    • In 2010, AT&T said existing Alltel customers in certain states would have to switch to the AT&T network by the end of 2010. AT&T will offer customers a comparable phone to those who must switch, according to FireceWireless.
