Eee PC 1000 Specifications

    • The Eee PC 1000 is a mini notebook produced by the Asus Corporation. The term "mini notebook" indicates that the computer is smaller, lighter and has longer battery life than a full-sized laptop. According to Asus, the Eee PC 1000 uses the GNU Linux operating system, as opposed to a variation of the Windows operating system used on most other Eee PCs. It is available in Pearl White or Fine Ebony.

    Processor

    • The Eee PC 1000 uses Intel's Atom N270 processor. Intel reports that the N270 operates at 1.6 GHz. It also states that the unit has a single core with 512 MB of L2 cache memory. The N270 has a 2.5 watt thermal design power (TDP), meaning that it requires its cooling system to dissipate 2.5 watts in order to prevent overheating. This relatively low TDP allows the PC to consume less power. This is part of the reason why it has a relatively long battery life of 7.5 hours.

    Memory

    • The computer is compatible only with DDR2 memory. DDR2 is available in different speeds. Of these, the fastest that the Eee PC 1000 can handle runs at 5300 megabytes per second (MB/s), otherwise known as "PC2-5300" or "DDR2-667," according to the website Crucial. The computer comes standard with 1 GB of memory and is upgradeable to 2 GB. Users performing the upgrade must use memory modules with a SO DIMM 200-pin configuration.

    Data Storage

    • According to Asus, the Eee PC 1000 comes with a 40 GB storage drive pre-installed. Cnet reports that the drive is a solid state unit. This means that it has no moving parts, making it faster and more reliable but with less storage capacity than a traditional hard drive. Since the machine does not come with a disk drive, the solid state drive is its only manufacturer-provided long term data storage option.

    Display

    • The Eee PC 1000 has a 10-inch display with a Thin Film Transistor (TFT) active-matrix LCD screen. According to Computer Hope, this allows the screen to be brighter, more colorful, faster and visible from more angles than a passive-matrix screen. Cnet reports that the display has a maximum resolution of 1024 by 600.
