Fluorescent lights offer powerful light for tasks that require detail. They also are energy gobblers. High Intensity Discharge (HID) lighting can be used as a replacement of T-light bulbs and provide six times the incandescence while using the same amount of electricity.

Compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) are perfect for the home office where a single light is used for seven hours or more each day. Compared to a150-watt incandescent bulb, the CFL uses only 32 watts. At 826 watts per a seven-hour day and a cost of 15 cents per watt, this amounts to $4 per month. The life of the CFL bulb is approximately eight times that of the incandescent bulb.

Many areas of the workplace require less intense task lighting, but lighting is necessary for the safety of workers and visitors. LED lighting is the answer for areas, such as entrances, exit signs, hallways and exterior landscaping. One LED bulb that is equivalent to a 60-watt bulb can cut the amount of wattage used by 50% and provide a much brighter, more natural light where needed.
