The Features of Coral Stone Walls

    • Archaeologists discover coral rock foundations as they explore ancient Maya cities. Mining the rock from the sea ground requires more labor than collecting perishable building materials. So these old coral stone foundations verify the skills and resources of the people who lived as Mayan civilization flourished. Coral stone remains a favored building material because of its functional and decorative characteristics, although synthetic versions of the material are largely indistinguishable from quarried coral stone.

    Temperate

    • Natural coral stones remain cool to the touch when exposed to sunlight. This feature prevents unexpected burns while leaning up against a coral stone wall on a sunny day. Artificial coral stone walls maintain the physical properties of concrete.

    Color

    • Only simulated coral stone made of glass fiber reinforced concrete is available in pastel colors. Natural coral rock maintains the neutral coloring of sedimentary limestone and fossilized coral. Overall, a natural coral stone wall appears predominantly light in color. Deeper tones occur in the textured areas of natural coral rock.

    Texture

    • Marine fossils give coral stone walls an intricate texture. Fossilized seashells may be visible within a natural coral stone wall. Manufacturers of simulated coral stone cast in coral stone molds to replicate the authentic texture of natural coral stone.

    Durability

    • Sedimentary limestone material, such as coral stone, is relatively easy to cut into useful blocks, but its durability will vary. Artificial coral stone walls are stronger than those made of genuine quarried coral stone.
