No one likes to let food go to waste. With some simple food-saver hints, it becomes easier than ever to keep your leftovers fresh in the freezer, fridge or pantry. In addition to saving leftovers, preparing and packaging food at the beginning of the week can help make meal time easier for the days to come. FoodSaver Vacuum Sealing System is the easiest way to achieve this.

    Freeze Perfect Portions

    • One way to make preparing meals throughout the week easier is to pre-make and freeze perfect portions. Top bagels or English muffins with bacon, eggs, Canadian bacon, cheese or any other favorite toppings then vacuum seal the individual breakfast sandwiches using FoodSaver's Vacuum Sealing System. Soup can also be frozen after preparation. Individual portions can be vacuum-sealed into bags and then microwaved when ready to consume. The same goes for desserts such as cookies. When you have the spare time, prepare homemade cookie dough and freeze. Then whenever the occasion arises for cookies--say guests come over unexpectedly--you can thaw the dough and bake.

    Vacuum-Pack Fruits

    • If your fruit is at a perfectly ripe stage but you know you are not going to eat it right away, it can still be saved. Vacuum-sealing the fruit and placing it in the refrigerator can keep the fruit at the same stage of ripeness for a few days at the very least. With bananas, if you peel them before vacuum sealing, they can even last weeks without discoloring. Vacuum sealing is simple; just insert the bag into your FoodSaver and the machine does the rest of the work.

    Use Airtight Canisters

    • Transferring your snacks such as chips, crackers or baked goods from their original packaging to an airtight canister can make all the difference. Once air gets to these goods, they can become stale quickly if not consumed. However airtight canisters can provide protection from the elements for weeks, giving your snacks longer-lasting freshness. FoodSaver brand has a line of canisters in different sizes, as well as airtight tops that you can place over your own jars.
