Fuel Suggestions for a 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS

The 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS is a supercharged vehicle that produces 205 horsepower. It is the performance variant of the standard Chevrolet Cobalt. Sports cars often have different fuel suggestions recommended by the manufacturer, as is the case with the Cobalt SS versus the standard Cobalt. Both the Cobalt SS and base Cobalt have a 13-gallon fuel tank.
  • Fuel Suggestions

    • Chevrolet recommends using 91 or higher octane fuel in the 2006 Cobalt SS. This vehicle is equipped with a 2.0-liter supercharged engine with a higher compression ratio than the base model's engine. Fuel rated 91 octane or higher generally is known as premium grade.

    Benefits

    • Using fuel with the proper octane rating ensures that the Cobalt SS will run efficiently and produce its maximum power. It also will eliminate engine pinging associated with the use of lower-grade fuel in the vehicle.

    Warnings

    • Although 91 or higher octane fuel is recommended, the Cobalt SS will run on a lower grade fuel. The fuel grade must be a minimum of at least 87 octane. However, the vehicle will be unable to produce its maximum power. Fuel efficiency also may be compromised. You also might hear a slight pinging noise coming from the engine.
