Gateway was founded in 1985 at a farmhouse in Iowa by Ted Waitt. Since then, the company formerly known as Gateway 2000 has produced a wide range of desktop computers and laptops, including the 3310 Series desktop, which comes with a Microsoft Windows XP Home SP2 operating system. Gateway partnered with Acer, Inc. in 2007, and as of 2010, together they are now the third-largest computer company in the world.

The Gateway 3310 has an Intel Celeron D processor. This processor comes with an integrated L2 cache and is built with Intel's advanced CMOS technology.

The Gateway 3310 Series desktop computer has two slots on the motherboard that allow for a maximum of 2 GB of total system memory. The primary retail configuration featured 256 MB of PC2700 DDR SDRAM.
Audio and Video

The Gateway 3310 Series has an integrated audio subsystem. The audio subsystem uses the Realtek ALC202A codec for processing an Intel Audio Codec '97 driver. For video, there is the integrated Intel Extreme Graphics 2 controller.

The ability to choose from a variety of hard drives is what makes the Gateway 3310 a "series." The Ultra ATA100 7200 RPM hard drive options include 80 GB, 120 GB or 160 GB.

The Gateway 3310 Series desktop computer comes with an 8-in-1 media card reader. The eight supported media cards consist of a CompactFlash Card, IBM MicroDrive, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, SmartMedia Card, Secure Digital, MMC and USB 2.0.

There are five optical drive options available in the Gateway 3310 Series: a
20X/48X CD-ROM; a 48X/32X/48X CD-RW/DVD; a 16X/48X IDE DVD-ROM; a 48X/32X/48X CD-RW, and; a 16X Double-Layer Multi-Format DVD/RW.
External Ports

The Gateway 3310 Series desktop has front and rear audio ports for speakers, as well as parallel, serial, network and VGA monitor ports. There are also up to six USB 2.0 ports, with two in the front of the tower and four in the back, a PS/2 keyboard port and a PS/2 mouse port.
Expansion Bays

There are two external 5.25-inch bays, two external 3.5-inch drive bays and two internal 3.5-inch drive bays included in the Gateway 3310 Series.
