Haunted Inns in Savannah, Georgia

  • The Eliza Thompson House

    • Built in 1847, the Eliza Thompson House was the first house constructed on Jones Street in Savannah's historic district. The inn, restored to its original character in 1995, consists of 12 rooms in the main house and 13 rooms surrounding its garden courtyard. Each room, decorated in a style reminiscent of the home's early days, has a modern, private bath. The proprietors of the inn claim that ghosts stir within the home's walls. Alleged apparitions include a Confederate soldier spied in an upstairs window and a young girl dressed in white seen walking the halls.

    The Galloway House

    • The Galloway House is one of historic Savannah's last plantation mansions. Guest accommodations are one or two-bedroom, and include fully equipped kitchens, private living rooms and private baths. Other amenities are complimentary continental breakfast and a free bottle of wine upon arrival. The Galloway House website includes testimonials from previous guests who have claimed to see ghosts. In fact, the inn's owner alleges that he was locked in the attic, perhaps by spirits, the day after moving into the home.

    The Foley House Inn

    • Two adjacent mansions comprise the Foley House Inn on quiet Chippewa Square. Private balconies, whirlpool jacuzzis and gas fireplaces are in almost every room. There are several complimentary dining options throughout the day, including a Southern-style breakfast, an afternoon tea service, and pre-dinner wine and hors d'oeuvres. The Foley House Inn has its own ghost story: in the late 1800s, the widowed Mrs. Foley started taking in boarders to earn extra money. One of those boarders disappeared at night, never to be heard from again. It is said that his top hat-wearing ghost walks at night in the inn's gardens.

    The Kehoe House

    • The Kehoe House, built in 1892, is a Revival-style mansion that features 13 guest rooms, some of which have separate sitting areas, private verandas and views of Columbia Square. Amenities include a made-to-order breakfast and afternoon tea. Twin children, part of the large Kehoe family, allegedly died while playing in one of the home's chimneys. The fireplaces were eventually blocked up and decorated with angels, perhaps to symbolize the lost children. Legend has it that, to this day, the children haunt Rooms 201 and 203 of the iInn.
