How to Add Refrigerant to Saab Cars

Adding refrigerant to Saab cars, like the Saab 9-10 Sport Sedan, no longer requires a trip to the dealership, several hours waiting around and a large repair bill. You can purchase a universal air-conditioner recharge kit at most popular automotive part suppliers. The kit comes complete with the refrigerant, service hose and pressure gauge. The kit saves you money, and you are guaranteed to have the correct parts to recharge your air conditioner.

Place the service hose onto the bottle of refrigerant. Turn the valve on the hose clockwise to poke a hole in the top of the bottle. Turn it counterclockwise to let the air out of the hose.

Pull the black cap off the 13mm quick-disconnect valve located between the accumulator and compressor. This is called the "low side" valve.

    • 3

Turn the Saab on and turn the air conditioning on full blast.

    • 4

Open the valve on the service hose. The air conditioner sucks the refrigerant out of the can. It can take up to 10 minutes per can. It can also take several cans to fill the unit. Complete steps 1 through 4 until the pressure gauge on the service hose shows pressure in the unit between 25 and 40 psi.
