How to Anchor Down a Rubbermaid Big Max Building

If you have purchased a Rubbermaid Big Max outdoor shed, you may want to anchor it down, to prevent it from blowing over during high winds. Although these structures are very heavy once erected, you may want to add additional support by anchoring the shed to a foundation underneath. Anchoring the shed will protect your belongings inside and provide a sturdy place to store those items that you can't fit inside your house.

Clear an area of your yard where you wish to erect the shed. Mark off an area for the slab that is approximately 129 inches by 85 inches.

Box this area with scrap 2-by-4 material and pour a 4-inch thick concrete slab for the shed to rest upon. Mix the concrete in a plastic trough and spread it with a shovel.

Install the anchor straps. Following the diagram that came with the shed, place the foundation straps in the wet concrete, at the anchoring locations listed.

Mount the anchor boards. Using treated 2-by-4 boards, drill holes through the boards in the location where the anchor points will be on the finished shed. Insert lag bolts through the holes with the threads facing up. Place the boards in a frame around the perimeter of the concrete slab. Bend the foundation straps around the boards and nail them down with a hammer. The frame should now be secured to slab.

Build the base of the shed. Line up the anchor holes on the shed base with the bolts on the anchor boards. Screw the base down to the boards with a socket wrench. Once you have completed the rest of the shed, it will now be safely secured to the cement slab.
