How to Attach a New Bathroom to Existing Plumbing

Installing a new bathroom can be a daunting prospect if you have never previously attempted a similar project. The most difficult part of installation is setting and fixing new plumbing pipes. The project will be much easier if the waste pipes and water supply are already in place. The water supply will already be turned off when the old bathroom units were removed. You must be aware of the location of the water supply tap before you start installation. Once the bathroom facilities are in place, you will be ready to reconnect the water supply.

Connect the waste pipe. The drainage waste pipes must be connected first on all bathroom fittings. The bathroom may be flooded if you connect the taps first. The waste drainage pipes are connected to the drainage system underneath the bath or sink with a nut. Hand tighten the nut, then tighten fully with the basin wrench. The drainage pipe is usually white and thicker than the water supply pipes.

Attach the water supply pipes to the taps. Ensure the corresponding hot and cold water supplies are attached to the correct taps. Screw the connector nuts underneath the sink or bath to the tap threads. Hand tighten the nuts, then use the adjustable wrench to tighten fully.

Open the taps and turn on the water supply. Let the taps run for a few minutes to flush away any debris.
