How to Celebrate the 175th Anniversary for a Business

If your business will be celebrating its 175th anniversary, mark the occasion by hosting an event, giving back to the community in which your business operates, or using the occasion as a marketing opportunity. Generations of people have put their time and effort into creating a business successful enough to last this long, and they deserve recognition. Use your company's anniversary to show off your business' accomplishments from its humble beginnings to modern times.

Brainstorm ideas for how you want to celebrate your business' anniversary. Select about 10 employees to be on an event-planning committee to help you decide how to celebrate. Choose a broad mix of people, including employees who have been with the company for years or even decades and newer employees, to ensure that a wide cross section of opinions are represented.

Hold meetings with your committee once a month during the year leading up to your anniversary to share ideas. Consult with a business anniversary planning company for ideas. Vote on how you want to celebrate. You might decide to host a dinner or event, make a donation, or embark on a media marketing campaign to spread the word about your business' longevity, or some combination of these or other ideas. Choose a theme, such as your company's history through the years or an enduring value that defines your company, like "courage" or "dedication."

Select a date for your event and set a budget. List all of the things for which you will need to pay for your event, including catering, event-planning services, venue rentals and publicity.

Hire an event planner or tap your company's event coordinator, if you have one, to plan the details of your event. Ask your employees on the event-planning committee to hire caterers, rent a venue, work with a charity or contact the media. Your company's publicity director can help spread the word about your anniversary plans. Work as a team and delegate tasks up until the date of your event.
