How to Change a #3 Plug Wire on a 2000 Blazer

The #3 spark plug wire on the 2000 Chevy Blazer is the hardest of the six plug wires to remove because the plug location is on the right side of the motor, directly above the exhaust manifold. It is situated near the back of the engine bay and the distributor is just above it. This makes it difficult to remove the plug boot from the spark plug.
    • 1

Locate the #3 plug wire on the right side of the engine, close to the firewall. The wire rests between the exhaust manifold bolted to the side of the engine block and the distributor, which has six plug wires connected to the top.

    • 2

Position your body against the driver's side fender and reach into the engine bay, positioning your right forearm between the firewall and the distributor until you can reach the #3 plug wire.

    • 3

Grasp the #3 plug wire as close to the boot (portion of the wire that is pressed onto the spark plug) as you can. Unless you have very small arms and hands, you will likely not be able to reach the boot.

    • 4

Pull up on the plug wire until the wire pops off the spark plug. The plug simply presses onto the plug. You will not damage the spark plug or wire by pulling the wire off the plug.

    • 5

Trace the #3 wire to where the plug wire connects to the distributor.

    • 6

Grasp the boot that connects the wire to the distributor and pull upward to remove it from the distributor, then pull the wire out of the engine bay.

    • 7

Place a small amount of electrical grease into both boots on the new #3 plug wire. Electrical grease is generally supplied with new plug wires.

    • 8

Place the smaller boot onto the distributor and press the boot onto the connector on the distributor until you feel it snap into place.

    • 9

Snake the #3 wire between the distributor and the firewall until the boot of the wire rests on the spark plug.

    • 10

Grasp the wire just behind the boot with a pair of channel locks and then push the boot onto the spark plug wire until you hear it snap into place. The channel locks act as an extension to your arm.
