Go to the Alabama Department of Public Health's Certified Nurse Aide Registry website.
- 2
Enter the individual's Social Security number into the search box. Click "Search." If the number is typed in incorrectly or the person is not certified, you will receive an error message that the number was not found in the registry. According to the Department of Public Health, the search tool "provide[s] information on whether or not an individual is listed on the Nurse Aide Registry. Printed verifications are available when using the website."

Call the registry at 334-206-5169 to get help from a staff member during business hours. Alabama does not keep employment or work history records for nurse aides. The registry does not provide that information.

How to Check a CNA Certification in Alabama
The Alabama Department of Public Health offers an online tool to allow you quickly to look up the status of an individual's nurse aide certification. You will need the person's Social Security number to use the online tool, but if you are an employer, you probably have this information available in the person's application materials. The search tool is available 24/7.
