How to Clean Model Houses

Model homes are meant to show potential home buyers what their perfect dream home will look like. No one's dream house includes dirty footprints, dust or fingerprints on the glass. Getting a model home clean takes more work and time than cleaning your own home because the deep cleaning needed in a model home must be done at least weekly.

Place disposable shoe covers over your shoes as you step into the model home. You do not want to bring any more dirt into the house.

    • 2

Put on a pair of cleaning gloves before you start cleaning. This will keep your fingerprints off of the newly cleaned surfaces.

    • 3

Spray dust spray on a cleaning cloth. Wipe down the tops of furniture, picture frames and electronics. Move items off the furniture and the fireplace mantel while wiping them down to remove all the dust.

    • 4

Apply surface cleaner to counter tops according to the manufacturer's directions. Wipe the cleaning agent up with a fresh cloth.

    • 5

Spray window cleaner on one or two windows at a time. Wipe the window up with a crumpled piece of newspaper to avoid streaks. Repeat this until all the windows are clean.

    • 6

Sweep all the hard floors through out the house. Pick up any dirt swept up with the dust pan.

    • 7

Mop the floors with a steam mop. The steam mop will sanitize and clean the floors while leaving them dry so that you do not accidentally leave footprints on the floors as you complete cleaning the house.

    • 8

Vacuum all the carpets throughout the model home. Start at the back and work your way toward the front door.

    • 9

Walk back through the model home with the compact carpet shampooer. Shampoo any stained spots on the carpet and let dry.
