- 1
Unplug the Oreck XL vacuum cleaner.
- 2
Unzip and remove the outer bag from the Oreck XL and turn it inside-out. Hand-wash it in a sink or tub with warm running water until the water runs clear. Do not use any soap or detergent.
- 3
Squeeze and shake the outer bag to remove any excess water. Set it aside to air dry.
- 4
Replace the vacuum bag if the dirt inside reaches the "fill" line.
- 5
Place the dry outer bag back on the Oreck XL. Zip the outer bag around the vacuum bag, and connect the spring at the base of the vacuum.
- 6
Turn the vacuum upside-down to expose the brush roller and remove any lint attached to it. If the lint is tightly wound around the brush roller, carefully cut it with a razor blade and pull it off with your hand.
- 7
Remove any lint from the intake opening near the brush roller with long-nose pliers or a screwdriver.
- 8
Wipe the outside of the Oreck XL with a clean, damp cloth to remove any dirt or dust.

How to Clean Oreck XL
The Oreck XL vacuum cleaner comes in a lightweight, upright design with disposable filter bags and antimicrobial odor control. Dirt and debris can build up on the inside and outside of the machine. When the outer bag gets dirty, it can block the air flow and reduce the vacuum's efficiency. A clogged brush roller or intake opening will prevent the vacuum from suctioning up debris properly, and may even damage the machine. Clean your Oreck XL on a regular basis to keep it running smoothly.
