How to Clean a Truck Toolbox

A truck toolbox is a metal or aluminum box mounted to the back of a truck bed used to store and transport tools. The box protects the tools from damage while in transport and from weather conditions, such as rain and snow. Over time, the tool box can get dirty and the metal can lose its shine. A mild soap can be used to remove dirt and build-up from the box and a truck box polish will help restore its shine.
    • 1

Combine a car cleaning soap or a mild dish soap with warm water in a bucket.

    • 2

Dip a sponge or rag into the soapy water. Rub the soapy water onto the toolbox to remove dirt, dust and residue.

    • 3

Rinse the bucket and sponge or rag until all soap residue is removed. Refill the bucket with cool water.

    • 4

Dip the sponge or rag into the water and wipe down the toolbox to remove all soap residue. Be sure all residue is removed, as soap residue can leave a cloudy, dull film behind.

    • 5

Dry the truck toolbox with a towel.

    • 6

Dampen a soft cloth with the truck box polish. Rub the cloth into the truck box to coat the box with a thin, even layer of polish. Allow the polish to dry on the box.

Dampen a clean, soft cloth in cool water. Squeeze to remove all excess moisture. In a circular motion, buff the polish off the truck toolbox with the dampened cloth. Continue buffing until all polish is removed.
