Plug the OBD scan tool into the DLC. Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ACC" position, taking care not to start the engine. Most scan tools will power on automatically when you do this. If not, look for the on/off switch and turn it on.

Wait for the scan tool to read and display the codes. To clear the codes, select the "Delete Codes" or "Erase" command from the scan tool.
- 4
Wait for the scan tool to clear the codes. It will tell you it is finished by displaying "Command Sent" or return you to the main menu on the tool.

How to Clear Codes on a Jeep Liberty
You can clear the codes on your Jeep Liberty with an On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) I or II scan tool. If your vehicle is 1996 or newer, you need an OBD II scan tool; if it is older than 1996, you need an OBD I scan tool. The OBD computer receives trouble codes from sensors positioned throughout the Liberty. These codes can be retrieved with a scan tool for the purpose of diagnosing vehicle problems. Once the vehicle has been serviced or repaired based on the information obtained from the codes, you can clear the trouble codes with the OBD scan tool. This will turn off the warning and service lights on the instrument panel as well.
