How to Connect a Smartphone to Vista

Smartphones that are compatible with Vista-based PCs can be connected for synchronization purposes using the device's USB cable. The device's cable establishes a connection between the smartphone and the computer, and will often appear as a "Removable Drive" in the Windows Explorer window on your PC. Additional software may be required to synchronize content between the devices, and is included on the software CD that comes with your smartphone depending on the manufacturer.

  Insert the device cable into the connector port located on the smartphone, and insert the other end into your PC's device port. The USB port is often located on the front or back of a desktop, or on the left or right side of your PC laptop.

  Click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories" and "Sync Center."

  Click "Set up new sync partnerships" in the Sync Center window, and click the smartphone's name. Click "Set Up," and click the settings you wish to use for the smartphone.

  Click "View sync partnerships," click the smartphone's name and click "Sync."

  Right-click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the PC desktop's taskbar, and click the name of the smartphone to safely eject the phone from the computer. Failure to properly remove the smartphone can result in data loss or damage.
