How to Convert to Square Metres (Meters)

Area is a two-dimensional space, such as the floor space in a room or the space in a parking lot. In the metric system, the square meter is used to quantify area. However, other units are also used, such as the square kilometer, square centimeter, square inch, square foot and square yard. If you have area measures in different units, you have to convert them to a common unit in order to compare them.

Divide the number of square inches by 1,550 square inches per square meter to convert from square inches to square meters. For example, if you had 3,100 square inches, you would divide 3,100 square inches by 1,550 square inches per square meter to get 2 square meters.
