How to Create a Store Logo

Store logos are a good way to market a business and help consumers to visually identify a company. Colors, images and basic shapes, such as squares and circles, can be used to design a logo that will serve to represent an establishment. Store logos can be simple enough to permit the buyer to clearly identify a company, or they can be elaborate enough to make an impact on the consumer. Once the store logo is created, it can be placed on fliers, circulars, and product labels to promote the establishment.

Look through magazines and graphic design books to get inspiration for how the store logo should be created. Observe how the images, shapes and text are all strategically placed in other store logos to catch the consumer's attention. Logos should permit viewers to connect a company with the kind of products that it sells or with its ideals, simply by looking at the logo.

Write down a list of symbols that represent the store and its product inventory. A hat store could use a top hat or baseball cap with the store name on it, and hardware stores can use screwdrivers or a hammer. These simple symbols will help create a logo that represents the service clearly.

Select colors that can be used for the store logo that will catch the consumer's eye. For example, the colors red and yellow are used to attract a consumer's attention and lure them to buy or consume. Blues are viewed as more relaxed and clean, while shades of brown and green may be viewed as earth-friendly tones.

Draw the logo you envisioned on a sheet of paper using a pencil. You can create a rough sketch to express the overall idea of how the store logo will look. Place the company name in a fair size text to allow the consumer to clearly identify the store name. Use colored pencils to add in the selected colors to the logo for completion.

Contact a local print shop in the community. Schedule an appointment to speak to a graphic designer about the store logo that has been designed. Take the drawn logo to the print shop, and ask or collaborate with the graphic designer to enhance the look of the store logo to make it more appealing. Graphic designers specialize in creating logos, and can provide valuable input for a successful logo design.

Copyright or trademark your store logo once it has been created. This can be done through the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Copyrights and trademarks will protect your image and prevent other companies or individuals from using it without permission.
