How to Create a Template in AutoCAD 2007

Using template files in AutoCAD (.dwt) will help your work flow. By setting up templates, you can create standard documents that include all of the elements you need and use on a daily basis. Template files can be set as the default across an organization so that everyone adheres to the same standards. This not only helps users read and correctly interpret drawings; it also helps create a corporate style and identity that inspire confidence in those outside your organization.

Open a blank drawing in AutoCAD. Templates generally don't have any geometry in them, but you can add any standard blocks you may use. Insert them and then delete them. Although you can't see them, they remain part of the drawing.

When you open a new drawing using the "New Drawing" icon, the drawing will automatically use the template that you just created. You can share your drawing template file with your colleagues to aid consistency across your company.
