How to Design Your Own Christening Invitations

Christening your baby can be a joyous time for friends and family to celebrate your child's baptism. To be sure everyone you want to be there knows when and where to go, you'll need to send invitations, which can become expensive depending on the type you use. Luckily, you can design your own christening invitations for very little cost.

  Decide whether you want the invitation to be a single page or a folding card. Purchase enough card stock paper for the size and number of invitations that you will be making.

  Decide on the wording for the invitations. Include the day, time and location for the christening, a contact number for RSVPs, as well as whether a celebration will be held after the ceremony at another location. Also, include any scripture you have chosen to display on the card.

  Hand write or use a printer to put the information you selected onto the face of the card as well as on the inside if using a folding card. Depending on whether you want a casual or formal atmosphere for the christening, use a relaxed script or formal cursive for hand-written invitations, or select an appropriate printer font for the card.

  Cut out shapes from colored paper to look like items such as crosses, christening gowns, bonnets, Bibles or water basins. If you don't want to cut out paper items, you can find a variety of scrapbooking images pertaining to many religious occasions in your local craft store.

  Place the cutouts or scrapbooking pieces on the invitations where you want them to appear and make sure you aren't covering over any of the text. Use school glue or a glue stick to attach the items to the invitation. Allow the glue to dry thoroughly for at least an hour before putting them into addressed envelopes.
