Ask the sales representatives when you are shopping for new homes in Georgia. Almost all the new homes in Georgia are located in subdivisions, staffed with trained employees who know the features of the homes well. If the sales representative does not know, read the features list in the brochure to see what kinds of stoves and hot water heaters are standard.

Call the subdivision before you visit if you want to live in a home that has natural gas. Not all developments or subdivisions have gas as an option. Gas lines take time to lay and not all homeowners want gas appliances. Gas lines may need more maintenance than electrical lines, since the lines can develop leaks, leaving homeowners with the bill to repair the part of the line that sits on their property.

Instruct your real estate agent, if you are using one, that you only want to look at new homes that have natural gas. Real estate agents have databases of new and resale homes and are able to sort out the new home communities that have natural gas, simplifying your search.

How to Determine If a New Home Is in a Natural Gas Area in Georgia
Natural gas provides a good alternative to electricity, especially if the cost of gas per BTU is lower than the cost of electricity. Some people also prefer cooking with gas, preferring the precise and immediate heat control it provides. As of November 2010, 12 natural gas providers are in Georgia, all of which use recycled natural gas created in landfills and sent through the gas lines throughout the state to conserve resources.
