Check the official website of the company you're contacting and read the email resume submission guidelines. Each company will have different guidelines for emailing resumes such as the resume's format and the text you should write in the subject line or body of the email. If you can't find the appropriate information on the company's website, call the company and ask about its email submission guidelines.

Convert your electronic resume into plain text if the company requires it. Open your resume document in your word processing program. Select all the text by holding "Control" and pressing "A" at the same time. Right-click the text and click "Copy." click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories," and then "Notepad," right click the notepad and click "Paste." Your resume will appear in plain text. Click "File" and then "Save" to save the text file.

Log on to your email account and enter the appropriate email heading in the Subject line and text in the body, following the company's guidelines. In some cases you may have to copy the plain text resume into the body of the email. To do this, open the text file containing your resume, hold "Control" and press "A" at the same time. Right-click on the text and click "Copy," right-click in the body of the email and click "Paste."

Attach your resume in the appropriate format if necessary. If the company requests that you attach the resume rather than copying text into the body of the email, click the "Attach" option within your email account, browse your computer for your resume document and select it as an attachment.

How to Email a Resume for a Job
In a job search, first impressions are often made with resumes rather than face-to-face meetings. Human resources managers and hiring managers don't have time to meet every candidate for a position, so they use resumes--lists of relevant education and work experience--as a way to select candidates that feel are worthy of an interview. Some employers accept email resumes. Emailing resumes can be convenient, but be sure to send an email resume that meets the company's submission guidelines.
