How to Fill a Canon CL-31 Color Cartridge

The Canon CL-31 is a common printer used for home offices. The color cartridge of the Canon CL-31 has a tri-color function, meaning it has three colors in one cartridge. This combination of colors allows the printer to print rapidly and makes the process of refilling the color ink simpler. When the color ink cartridge is low manually refilling the color ink yourself will greatly reduce the cost of maintenance to your printer.

  Place the ink cartridge on paper towels. In the process of refilling some of the ink will spill so protect the area from staining.

  Remove the label from the top of the ink cartridge. Use two fingers to grasp the edge of the label. Completely remove the label by pulling with your two fingers. Notice the three holes in the top of the ink cartridge.

  Drill larger holes from the three holes in the ink cartridge. Hold your drill with one hand, push the large button to activate the drill. Push the drill against each of the three holes, making them wider and deeper.

  Squeeze the end of the syringe with the opposite end dipped in the color ink. Fill the syringe with 6 milliliters of color ink. The syringe provides a numbered scale on its surface allowing you to accurately measure the amount of ink.

  Inject ink into each chamber. Squeeze the round side of the syringe to inject the ink, filling each one to the top of the chamber. Leave the holes in the cartridge exposed and do not replace the tab on the top of the cartridge. This will allow the cartridge to function to its full extent.

  Push the ink cartridge into the printer. With two fingers, place the cartridge the slot of the printer and push the cartridge with your fingers. Stop pushing when you hear the cartridge click into place.
