How to Fix Downloading & Installing Problems in Windows

Both Firefox and Internet Explorer work well in downloading and installing files and programs from the Internet. However, sometimes the downloading/installing process can fail, perhaps due to a corrupt file. Clearing the download history usually fixes this problem.

      Open Firefox and click "Tools" on the menu bar.

      Click "Downloads, then select "Clear List" to clear the download history.

      Close Firefox, then relaunch it.

    Downloading and Installing Problems in Internet Explorer

      Open Internet Explorer. Click "Tools" on the menu bar, then select "Internet Options."

      Select the "General" tab and choose "Delete Files" in the "Browsing History" portion

      of the box. Click "OK."

      Select "Clear History" under the History Section of the "General" tab, then click "OK." Close Internet Explorer.

      Click the Windows logo in the lower left corner of your screen, then select "Run." Type "cmd" in the search box and press "Enter." A blank window will open. Type "cd C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE8." Replace "username" in that command with your username. Press "Enter," then type "del index.dat" and press "Enter." Type "Exit," then press "Enter" to close the window.
