How to Fix an HP Scanner Failure

Hewlett-Packard (HP) has manufactured several scanner models. A scanner captures images from photos, magazines and other similar documents and converts them into graphic images on your computer. If you are having problems with your HP scanner, there are several ways to troubleshoot an HP scanning failure.

Use one scanner at a time. Windows may not be able to detect two scanners at the same time. As a result, you will get a scanner failure. Disconnect one of the scanners connected to the printer and try scanning a document again.

Ensure that the data cable is properly connected from the scanner to a USB port in your computer, if the computer cannot seem to detect the device. The end of the USB cable that is connected to the printer should have the USB symbol facing up. If the scanner is still not detected, plug the USB cable into another USB port in your computer and see if the problem is solved.

Reset the scanner. Close the HP scanning software installed on your computer and turn off the computer and the scanner. Unplug the cable that connects the computer to the scanner. Wait at least 60 seconds before turning the computer and scanner back on. Plug in the cable that connects the computer and scanner. Try scanning a document and see if the problem is solved.
