Visit the IRS website to apply for your EIN online. When you get to the end of the online application and submit it, your EIN will displayed on the screen.

Download form SS-4 from the IRS website if you prefer to complete the form by hand and mail or fax it to the IRS. Fax to 859-669-5760 or mail to Internal Revenue Service, Attn: EIN Operation, Cincinnati, OH 45999. Your EIN will come by return fax within four days or by return mail within four weeks.

Call the IRS's Business and Specialty Tax Line at 800-829-4933 to apply for your EIN over the phone. You will be asked the same questions that are on the SS-4 form. At the end of the call, the representative will give you the new EIN.

How to Get a Free Tax ID in Arizona
If you are starting a business in Arizona, you must register to pay taxes in the state through the Arizona Department of Revenue. While some states require you to have a unique state tax ID number, Arizona is not one of those states. In fact, the department has all businesses use the federal tax ID number as the state tax ID number. The Internal Revenue Service issues the number, called an Employer Identification Number, for free.
