Log on to your computer and open your database program. Open the database where you want to import the data.

Click the "File" menu and choose "Get External Data" from the list. Click the "Files of Type" drop-down arrow and choose "XML" from the list.

Browse to the folder containing the XML document you want to import. Highlight the file and choose "Import" to start importing the file.

Choose the "Structure only" option to import only the structure of the XML table, without the accompanying data. Choose the "Structure and data" option to bring in both the structure of the XML table and the data it contains.

Double-click the new table and make sure the data from the XML document was imported properly. Add additional data to the table if you wish.

One of the biggest advantages of using a database program is the ability to use the program with many different types of files, including text, spreadsheet and XML files. Learning how to import XML files allows you to receive data from other users, regardless of whether those users have the same type of software programs you do.
