How to Increase FTP on IE7

Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) is the default Web browser for Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 operating systems. File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is used by IE7 for file transfers on the Web. If you experience delays in file transfer, you may want to follow certain steps to speed things up. Note that there are several third-party programs that you can download to enhance FTP speed. However, IE7 offers built-in settings that can improve FTP speed without having to download any external software.

Close down unused tabs or IE7 windows. Certain Web pages, even when unused, tend to use up bandwidth, impacting your FTP speed.

Clear your Web cache. Click "Tools" on IE7, and select "Internet Options" from the context menu. Click the "General" tab. Click the "Delete..." button under "Browsing History." Check "Temporary Internet files" and "Cookies." Click the "Delete" button. Click "OK."

Enable FTP folder view outside of Internet Explorer. Click the "Advanced" tab in the "Internet Options" window. Scroll down the list of options until you see the subtitle "Browsing." Check "Enable FTP folder view (Outside of Internet Explorer)." Click "Apply."

Minimize downloads. Downloading multiple files can slow down your file transfer speed. If possible, close all download dialog boxes during FTP. You may resume downloads after you are done transferring files.
