How to Install the Headlights in My Passat

If the headlights on your Passat have burnt out or are faulty, you need to replace them. Fortunately, installing new headlights on a Passat is a simple and straightforward process. Although the Passat has gone through many redesigns over the years, the procedure for installing new headlights is similar for all model-years. Expect the whole process to take less than 30 minutes to complete.

  Prop open the hood of your Passat with the hood support rod.

  Look behind the headlight assembly and press down on the tab at the side of the wiring harness connected to the back of the assembly. Pull the wiring harness directly out of the assembly.

  Pull the rubber weather cover off of the back of the headlight assembly by turning its sides inside out.

  Unscrew the headlight bulb socket from the rear of the headlight assembly.

  Press in on the metal retaining clip securing the current headlight in place to disengage the retaining clip.

  Pull the headlight directly out of the headlight assembly and insert the replacement headlight. Follow the previous steps in reverse to finish installing the new headlight.
