How to Install a Home Amp & Subwoofer

A home amplifier and subwoofer work together to produce the deep bass that rumbles throughout the room in a home theater system. The sub produces low-frequency audio and air movement, so listeners can feel as well as hear the bass. Amplifiers are equipped with a 1/4-inch audio output jack dedicated for a subwoofer connection. Use a heavy subwoofer cable designed specifically for sub use to hook up the two components.
    • 1

Unplug the amplifier and subwoofer electrical cords.

    • 2

Push in one end of the subwoofer cable into the jack on the back of the amplifier labeled "Sub OUT" or similar wording.

    • 3

Insert the plug on the other end of the cable into the subwoofer's input jack on the back panel.

    • 4

Plug in the power cords for both components and turn them on.

    • 5

Adjust the volume control knob on the back of the subwoofer to produce the desired bass effect.
