How to Install an Oldsmobile 88 Radiator Plug

The Oldsmobile 88 was produced by General Motors from 1949 until 1999. Although they are no longer being manufactured, you can still see many of these cars on the road. One of the tricks to keeping your vehicle running for a long time is proper care and maintenance of the radiator. The coolant inside the radiator keeps the engine at the optimum operating temperature and is held inside the system by a drain plug. Installing an Oldsmobile 88 radiator plug is one of the first steps to do when refilling your coolant after a coolant change or flush.
    • 1

Wait for the Oldsmobile 88's engine to cool for at least 30 minutes before working near it.

    • 2

Climb under the vehicle and beneath the radiator at the front of the Oldsmobile 88. The radiator plug socket is located on the driver's side. Insert the radiator plug into the socket and turn it clockwise to secure it in place. Do not over-tighten the plug.

    • 3

Unscrew the radiator cap counterclockwise and pull it off the radiator.

    • 4

Fill the radiator with a 50/50 mixture of coolant and distilled water. Keep filling it until the radiator level rises to about 1 inch from the radiator cap.

    • 5

Start the engine and turn on the heater to circulate the coolant throughout the entire engine system.

    • 6

Top off the radiator with the coolant and distilled water mixture while the engine is running. Replace the cap when the system has filled to within 1 inch from the top.

    • 7

Fill up the radiator's overflow reservoir with coolant to the fill line.
