Climb a ladder, if necessary, and use a utility knife to remove the old caulking from around the edges of the window trim. Using the pry bar, pry the window trim away from the wall area and window. Carefully pull the window trim loose and set it aside.
- 2
Cut away the window frame caulking with the utility knife. Use a drill to unscrew the window frame completely. Pull the loosened window out from the buck area, which is the space left open for window installations during construction of a home.
- 3
Scrape away any excess material from the buck area and remove any sealant that's visible. Remove the fasteners and reseal any gaps between the brick area and the buck using masonry sealant.
- 4
Use a paint brush to coat the area around the buck generously with liquid rubber sealant to protect it from water. Allow the sealant to dry thoroughly before proceeding. Use the window shims to secure the replacement window into place and to make it stable. With a level, ensure that the window is situated evenly before continuing.
- 5
Use the drill to screw the window into the buck by going through the window's fin slots. Nail the window trim down to the buck using a hammer. Caulk around the trim edges to secure and finish the project.
- 6
Smooth the caulk into place using a scrap piece of wood to give a clean and finished look. Allow the caulking to dry before using the window.
