Measure and cut the vinyl material into two pieces that are 9 inches wide and 15 inches long. The scissors or craft knife need to be extremely sharp to cut through the vinyl fabric.
- 2
Cut around the outsides of the envelopes make them 8 by 13 inches. Large 9 ½ by 14 ½ envelopes work great; however, larger sizes can be cut down to fit. Smaller envelopes can also be used, if they are taped together to create cushions the right size.
- 3
Lay the vinyl pieces on top of each other, on a flat surface, with the outsides touching. Pin the two vinyl pieces together ¼ inch from the edge of the fabric.
- 4
Sew three sides of the vinyl together with a hem ¼ inch from the edge. Use a heavy duty needle to pierce the vinyl. A double hem will reinforce the cushion. Remove the pins from the fabric after the cushion is sewn.
- 5
Turn the vinyl inside out and sew the Velcro strips or snaps to the fourth edge. This will close the cushion and allow you to change out the envelopes when they start to wear out. Velcro is easier to apply but can pop open from time to time. Snaps are a little harder to sew but normally stay snapped together.
- 6
Insert the mailing envelopes. Place as many as possible in the cushion. The more envelopes that you use, the thicker the cushion will be.
- 7
Close the cushion with the Velcro or snaps.
