How to Make Tassel Pasties

Any theatrical performance relies on the costumes as well as the performance, even if the costume is very small. Pasties have been used in burlesque shows since their development in the 1930s. They are still used today as a way to reveal as much of a women's breast as possible without her being entirely topless. Women can be found wearing them on beaches and in exotic dance clubs where it is illegal for a women to be entirely topless. While they can be purchased, you easily make pasties at home.

Measure the area that requires covering.

    • 2

Using a piece of cork or foam board as a template, mark a center point on the cork or foam board and use an architectural compass to draw the circle. Make it roughly ½ inch larger than the measurement you took.

    • 3

Cut the template out of the cork or foam core using scissors. If you are making these Pasties for other people, write the person's name on the cork or foam board for future reference.

    • 4

Place the template on the material you are using to make the Pasties and cut the correct size out of the material.

    • 5

Place the template on a thin poster board matching the shade of the material you are using (dark board for dark material). Cut a circle out of the board and use the appropriate glue to glue it to the material you have cut out.

    • 6

Cut a straight line from the edge of the Pasties to the center of each one and carefully pull one side of the cut under the other to create a slight cone shape.

    • 7

Cut the string coming out from the top of the tassel so it is 1/4-inch long. Slide the 1/4-inch string through the cut you made and position it at the center of the Pastie. When the tassel is in the correct position, glue the Pastie so it retains its shape.

Use the template to cut a piece of felt and glue this to the back of the Pastie where it will touch the person's skin. Pasties attach using a circular two-sided adhesive that is similar to a bandage. Peel one side of the adhesive circle and place on the back of Pastie. Remove the covering when it is time to put the Pastie on.
