How to Make a Voice Changer

Changing your voice to conceal your identity has always been a favorite ploy for pranksters and practical jokers who try to fool family, friends and others. Most people have been targets of this prank more than once. It usually fails miserably, and the attempted ruse is quickly uncovered. Count on technology to accomplish what is practically impossible through the limited natural abilities of most. Now, you can actually buy a voice change kit online and put together a device that alters your voice substantially.

Open the kit onto a flat working surface. Find the resistor, the tube-like piece with three purple wires sticking out. Use it to reduce electrical current flow, since the device will be ruined if it gets too much, and it only needs minimal electrical energy to work.

Wrap a piece of masking tape or clear tape around the resistor. Cover the entire tube and all the bare metal of each wire. Connect one of the resistor's purple wires to one of the circuit board's purple wires. It does not matter which one, just purple to purple. The circuit board is the green, rectangular piece with wires. Twist the copper ends together tightly, tug them gently and tape the bare metal to insulate it. Join the other two purple wires the same way.

Connect the transistor to control how much of the available electricity flows through the circuit. It is the little, short, black cylinder with three different color wires. Spread the three wires so the bare metal of each does not touch. Attach the transistor's blue wire to the circuit board's blue wire, orange to orange, and green to green, and tape the connections.

Connect the capacitor to even out the current flow. It is the short, black cylinder with the brown and white wires. Wrap the bottom of the capacitor with tape down low enough to also cover the bare wire coming out of it. Spread the two wires so the bare metal ends do not touch. Connect the brown and white wires to the same color wires on the circuit board and cover the connections with tape.

Attach the speaker, the disc with two yellow wires. Connect these yellow wires to the yellow wires on the circuit board and tape just like before.

Attach the grille to the speaker with the matching grooves. Place the speaker into the grooves of the holding case with the small end of the speaker pointing toward the circuit board, and the yellow wires sticking up.

Attach the battery cap to the 9-volt battery. Test the voice changer by speaking into the microphone. Check your wiring connections and your battery strength, if the voice changer does not work.
