How to Program a Touch Screen

Touch screen technology is implemented in many of the devices we use on a daily basis. Not only are many cell phones operated by touch input, but personal computers make use of the technology as well. Tablet notebooks and touch-enabled PCs offer alternative navigation and communication to otherwise familiar computer operating systems. Handwriting replaces keyboard typing in these computers, while stylus and finger-tapping replaces traditional mouse-clicking. To fully realize the touch screen experience, it is recommended that you calibrate the screen and add handwriting samples. Doing so improves the accuracy of touch and gesture input in tablets and touch-enabled PCs.
  • Calibrate the Touch Screen

    • 1

Access the computer's touch calibration settings. Open the Start menu by clicking the "Start" button in the lower left corner of the PC desktop. Using your stylus or finger, tap the "Control Panel" link in the Start menu. Select the "Tablet PC Settings" icon from the row of available options.

    • 2

Recalibrate the computer's touch settings. In the Tablet PC Settings wizard, tap the "Reset" button to clear the previously incorrect touch panel settings. Select "Calibrate" to initialize the calibration wizard. The wizard will display four different areas (one for each corner of the screen) that need to be touched to complete calibration.

    • 3

Finalize the computer calibration. Using your stylus, tap directly in the center of the symbol. Repeat this process for the remaining three corners of the screen. Afterwards, the wizard will notify you that calibration has been completed. If you are satisfied with the results, tap "Finish." To redo the calibration, select "Back."

    Improve Handwriting Recognition

    • 1

Open the "Personalize Handwriting Recognition" utility. Tap the "Start" button and type "Personalize Handwriting Recognition" in the search box. Select "Personalize Handwriting Recognition" from the search results.

    • 2

Provide handwriting samples to the utility. Click "Next" to begin writing. When prompted, rewrite the words requested by the utility in the space provided. After completing a word or phase, select "Next" to move to the next set of words.

    • 3

Click "Finish" to finalize the handwriting recognition process and allow the utility to merge existing handwriting samples with your new work. You can stop the handwriting entry procedure at any time, as the utility will continue asking you to re-enter words, phrases and numbers indefinitely. Continue to add writing samples into the utility until you feel confident of its recognition ability.
