Inspect the mini DVD for apparent cracks of damages. If the mini DVD is damaged, do not attempt to place it in the optical drive as it may damage the hardware.

Press the DVD button to open the drive. Place the mini DVD-R in the optical drive of your computer. Position it at the center of the DVD compartment before closing the drive. Close the DVD drive.

Wait for the computer to detect the optical media automatically. Open the optical media folder to read its contents. If the computer is not set to "Autoplay" mode, click "Start," "Computer" and then double-click the "CD/DVD" drive to open the folder and view the files.

How to Read a Mini DVD-R
A mini DVD-R often is used to save installers, help files and other files that do not require the large disk space of a regular DVD. Compared to the ordinary DVD, mini versions are half the physical size but otherwise work the same way. The steps in reading the contents of a mini DVD-R are similar to those for reading a regular DVD.
