How to Recycle Wiper Blades

As is the case with many car parts, windshield wiper blades will one day need to be replaced. Another way of looking at this is that you will eventually need to dispose of them. When the time comes to do so, you could simply opt to throw them into the garbage as you would any item. Alternatively, keeping in mind that these "blades" are actually made of rubber, you could recycle them at your local recycling center.

Remove your wiper blades from your windshield wipers. Run your fingers between the rubber blade and the metal wiper, tugging gently on the rubber as they pass. Be careful not to remove any of the plastic windshield wiper itself.

Separate the rubber blade from any metal parts. Call your local recycling center to inquire as to whether you can recycle the metal components of the blade, and if so, whether or not an appropriate metal recycling bin exists near your home. If you can't, try to find an alternate use for the metal around your home, rather than throwing it out.

Bring the rubber and/or metal to your local recycling center. If your local recycling center picks up rubber from around or near your home, you may also drop it in an adjacent bin.
