How to Remove the Image Retention on an LCD TV

Image retention (or "burn-in") on plasma televisions happens when an image such as a station identity is "burned" into the screen because the plasma was left on for too long. It results in a distracting "ghosting" of the burnt-in element. While LCDs do not suffer from this, they can also retain images that are left for too long on the screen. The problem can sometimes be fixed.

Turn off and unplug your LCD for longer than it took for the image to stick to the screen.

Download a "scrubbing" program to a laptop. Connect it to your television. Run the program's selection of patterned video sequences; these are designed to throw up patterns onto your screen that neutralize the sticking image.

Check through your television's screensaver settings; many have a white screensaver option that you can leave on. Let this play for two hours and check to see if the stuck image has gone.
