Disconnect power to the Whirlpool clothes washer by unplugging the machine. Turn off both hot and cold water lines at the wall shut off valves to the side of or behind the washer.

Remove the screw from the front of each end cap right under the console that contains the settings dial and buttons with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the tabs on the end caps' bottoms from the top panel holes by pulling forward and up on the console.

Lift the console and flip it back on its hinges. Disconnect the wiring harness plug by pulling it apart. Locate the clips on the back edges of the cabinet that are exposed with the console flipped up. Use a flat-head screwdriver to bend and slide the clips out of the cabinet to loosen the cabinet from its back panel.

Open the Whirlpool lid with one hand and hold it while tipping the cabinet toward you. Place your other hand in the top opening and brace the side of the machine against your leg.

Pull the cabinet toward you and lift up on it to remove it from the washer's base.
