How to Replace a 1999 Envoy Headlamp

A malfunctioning headlamp can impede a driver's vision at night, in the fog and during inclement weather. Replacing a broken headlamp improves safety on the road for both the driver and oncoming traffic. Replacing a headlamp on the 1999 Envoy is a quick repair a vehicle owner can make at home in as little as 10 minutes.

Park the car, turn off the engine and set the Envoy's emergency brake. Open and secure the vehicle's hood. Locate two plastic clips on top of the headlight assembly.

Pull up each clip to release them from the studs, which releases the headlamp assembly. Pull the headlamp assembly forward enough toward the front of the vehicle to access the electric wiring harness at the rear of the assembly.

    • 3

Unplug the electric wiring harness connected to the headlamp bulb. Push down on the headlamp bulb while turning it counterclockwise to remove it from the assembly. Discard the old bulb. Put on the gloves. Take the new bulb out of its packaging and insert it into the assembly, turning it clockwise as you push down on the bulb.

Plug the electric wiring harness into the rear of the headlight assembly. Insert the headlamp assembly back into the vehicle. Ensure the two plastic studs line up with the clips. Push down on both clips, locking them into position on the studs.

Close the hood and test out the new headlamp to ensure it works properly.
