How to Replace the Headlights on a 1998 Lexus LS400

The Lexus LS 400 first made its model debut in 1995 and was later noted as possessing more spacious accommodations, more powerful engines and sleeker styling features than earlier Lexus models. The 1998 model changes include additional horsepower and an anti-skid program termed Vehicle Stability Control. Although the pricing of the LS 400 is a bit more than its competitors, the maintenance on the vehicle is relatively pretty reasonable. In addition, knowing how to perform basic maintenance on your LS 400 can save you time and be less expensive than visiting your local mechanic.

      Open the vehicle's hood.

Locate the headlight assembly for the bulb that needs to be replaced.

    • 3

Press the release tab on the back of the headlight assembly and remove the connection from the back of the assembly. Squeeze the tabs on the connector and gently pulling the connector wires off the back of the assembly.

Grasp the bulb that needs to be replaced and turn the bulb counterclockwise to remove.

Use your clean cloth to pick up the replacement bulb and place the bulb into the headlight bulb socket. Rotate the bulb clockwise until the bulb is securely in place. You must use the clean cloth when replacing the bulb to avoid getting body oils on the bulb itself, which will shorten the bulb's lifespan.
