How to Replace an Igniter in a Kitchen Aid Gas Stove Element

Kitchen Aid is among the top brands for kitchen appliances, including gas stoves. Kitchen Aid gas stoves do not generally require much maintenance. However, the igniter for your gas stove's heating element can sometimes go bad after prolonged use. The igniter is a small cylinder-shaped metal coil that heats up and ignites the gas on your stove. Depending on the model and year of your Kitchen Aid gas stove, the igniter will be located under either the oven or the stove itself.

  Shut off the gas to your stove by turning the valve completely to the right.

  Locate the gas burner cover. Depending on the year and model of your Kitchen Aid stove, it will be located either under your stove range or inside the base of your oven. For under-the-stove models, you can access the gas burner cover by lifting the hinged top of your gas range. For under-the-oven models, pull out the oven base by hand. The gas burner cover is underneath, toward the center of the unit.

  Remove the two wing nuts holding your gas burner cover in place. You should be able to remove the wing nuts with your fingers by turning them to the left.

  Pull the igniter's plug from its socket by pinching the two tabs on the side of the socket in and pulling the igniter out.

  Untwist the ceramic end cap and remove the igniter wire from the oven wire.

  Detach the screws that hold the igniter in place, using a screwdriver. Insert the new igniter and secure it with the screws.

  Reconnect the new igniter wire with the oven wire. Twist the ceramic end cap back over the connected wires.

  Reinsert the igniter's plug end into its socket. Reattach the gas burner cover and secure it with the two wing nuts.
