How to Replace the Oil on a 1988 Ford 250 Truck

The 1988 Ford F-250 is a full-size pickup truck. Its eight-cylinder engine holds 15 quarts of 10W40 standard Ford engine oil. This truck is high enough off the ground that you won't need to raise the frame off the ground or use jack stands to change the oil. The oil pan's drain plug is on the bottom of the oil pan and the oil filter is on the side of the oil pan in clear view.

Get under the front of the truck on your back and slide under the oil pan. Place the drain pan under the drain nut. The oil pan and the drain nut will be in clear view on the bottom of the engine.

Remove the nut from the oil pan using a socket and ratchet. Drain the oil into the drain pan. Replace the nut after the oil has drained. Remove the oil filter from the right side of the oil pan by turning it counterclockwise. Place the new oil filter onto the engine and tighten it until the filter is snug.

Get out from under the truck and bring the drain pan with you. Open the hood and remove the black oil cap from the right side of the engine.

Place the funnel into the engine through the hole where the cap was. Pour the oil into the engine. Remove the funnel and replace the cap. Close the hood.
