How to Restore an Exchange From Backup Exec

Backup Exec is a back up software application designed and distributed by Symantec Inc. It offers continuous disk-to-disk-to-tape back up and recovery. You can utilize Backup Exec to back up Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL servers, Oracle databases and file system snapshots. Microsoft Exchange server is a client-side server that provides capabilities for email and calendaring as well as support for Web and remote access to email systems.
  • Create a Recovery Storage Group

      Open your Exchange management console. Click "Toolbox," then click "Database Recovery Management."

      Enter a name for your backup and enter the names of your Exchange server and domain controller server. Click "Next."

      Click "Manage Recovery Storage Group," then click "Tasks" and click "Create a Recovery Storage Group."

      Select the storage group you're trying to restore from. Click "Next."

      Enter a name for your storage group and click "Create the Recovery Storage Group."

    Use Backup Exec to Restore to an Exchage Recovery Storage Group

      Open your Backup Exec application. Click "Restore."

      Select the information you would like to restore.

      Choose "Microsoft Exchange Redirection."

      Select "Redirect Exchange Sets" and enter your Exchange server name in this format ""\\SERVERNAME." Select "Redirect using Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) Snapshot Provider," then click "Restore to Recovery Storage Group (RSG) (Exchange 2007 Only)."

      Run the back up. You have now restored an Exchange from Backup Exec.
